Sheffield One targets multi-million-pound hi-tech park

Sheffield One has submitted plans for a multi-million-pound hi-tech business park, E-Campus, to be located in the Sheaf Valley area of Sheffield.

The regeneration body, formed by Sheffield city council, Yorkshire Forward and English Partherships, wants to develop 60,000 sq m (645,856 sq ft) of offices targeted at e-business on a 3.3ha (8.2ha) site. The initial application focuses on the first phase, which will provide around 30,000 sq m (322,928 sq ft) of offices on a section of the site owned by Sheffield council.

Over half of the site is owned by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Exchange (SYPTE), which is carrying out research into improvements to the public transport network across the city. The remaining 0.8 ha (two acres) is owned by Sheffield council.

Sheffield One is now asking potential development partners to submit proposals and will draw up a shortlist over the next few months.

Sheffield One property director John Boulby said: “It’s the first scheme of its kind in Sheffield. The aim is to attract a small number of inward investors and their supply chain companies. It will be a critical element in helping to diversify Sheffield’s economy and reinvigorate the city centre.”

Yorkshire Forward’s E-Campus project manager Robert Hall said: “This project is a top priority for Yorkshire Forward because it will act as a focus for economic growth across South Yorkshire. It is also an exciting, leading-edge project that will further enhance Sheffield’s growing reputation as a prime location for knowledge-based industries.”
