Sheffield’s former Cannon Brewery overhaul set for approval

Capital & Centric’s proposals for Sheffield’s former Cannon Brewery have been recommended to be given the go-ahead.

The move comes ahead of the local council’s planning committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday next week.

If approved, the decision would pave the way for the brownfield site’s redevelopment following more than a quarter of a century of dereliction. Capital & Centric has proposed to retain and repurpose the building, as well as deliver contemporary new builds to provide over 500 homes on the site, alongside work and cultural spaces.

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority awarded £11.67m to kick-start the regeneration earlier this year.

Tom Wilmot, joint managing director of Capital & Centric, said: “Our plan is all about creating a diverse and interesting neighbourhood, with genuine community spirit, on a massive brownfield site that’s been derelict for decades.

“We hope councillors see the scale of opportunity and give our vision the thumbs up. It’ll allow us to getting going on site this summer to prep its for its overhaul.”
