Housing associations are being deterred from building sheltered and supported accommodation because of uncertain future funding, according to National Housing Federation chief executive David Orr.
The NHF is forecasting this will result in a 300,000 shortfall in the number of such homes by 2030, including 240,000 required for pensioners.
The situation has arisen because of changes to housing benefit on social housing from April 2019, which will see benefit capped at the local housing allowance level which is based on household size.
