Shepherd’s Bush JR quashed

A legal attempt to block the £150m redevelopment of Shepherd’s Bush Market, W12, has been dismissed on all grounds.

Justice Keith Lindblom dismissed the claim to stop the redevelopment, which proposes 212 homes and 140,000 sq ft of commercial space.

The high court decision follows a judicial review challenge by an opposition group comprising local shopkeepers on Goldhawk Road  that claimed Hammersmith & Fulham council’s consultation process on its local development plan was flawed and that it failed to follow proper procedure.

The leaseholders brought the action because they will be forced to leave their premises to allow the joint venture between Development Securities and Orion Land & Leisure to redevelop the 4.7-acre site.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council Leader, councillor Nicholas Botterill, said: “This is a victory for common sense. The council hopes that all local businesses will work with the developers to take full advantage of the opportunities that the scheme provides to attract new customers to this area of Shepherds Bush.”

He added: “The offer of new premises remains firmly on the table for businesses wishing to stay in this location.”

The decision means work can get underway 19 months after outline planning permission was given for the project.
