The Scottish Police Authority has appointed Shepherd Chartered Surveyors to sell 30 police buildings in Scotland.
The vast majority of the properties, identified following a public consultation by Police Scotland, have been vacant “for some time”.
Shepherd will begin selling the first tranche of properties, comprising 21 assets, in August. They will be marketed in relation to a variety of alternative uses, subject to obtaining local authority approval.
The Scottish Police Authority, which is the governance body for Police Scotland, is the legal owner of the 30 properties. The estate is managed by Police Scotland.
The instruction follows a competitive tendering process via the Crown Commercial Service’s Estates Professional Services Framework, which allows stakeholders to place orders for commercial property services in Scotland. Shepherd was also named as a supplier to the framework last year.
Sandy Rennie, a partner based at the chartered surveyor’s Inverness office, will coordinate the commission on behalf of Shepherd.
He said: “As part of the commission, Shepherd will review and inspect all the buildings, provide a market assessment, formalise a disposal strategy, provide planning advice, market the properties, negotiate any sale and provide general guidance and advice throughout the entire process.”
