Sheringham to get Tesco superstore

Sheringham, in north Norfolk, is to get a Tesco superstore in a development which could mean the destruction of local business, reports The Guardian.

The community centre, the fire station, a block of flats for social housing and a row of flint cottages will be demolished so Tesco can build the store.

It is proposed that the fire station will be rebuilt across the road, the community centre a mile away and the flats replaced by 11 old people’s bungalows on the town’s allotments.

The Times says Tesco’s dominance of retailing may be bad news for high streets that cannot compete on either range or price.
