Most shops can reopen from 15 June, the prime minister has said.
Under plans intended to help the economy to “bounce back”, Boris Johnson said that nearly all non-essential retailers could reopen, as long as they followed social distancing guidelines.
Certain other restrictions would be imposed, such as shoes needing to be quarantined for 24 hours after being tried on.
Outdoor markets and car showrooms will be allowed to reopen from next week.
Shop owners will face fines or two-year jail sentences for breaches.
