Lending for mortgages increased to a nine-month high in October indicating that the housing market has enjoyed a brief rally, although borrowing approvals still remained below the long-term average.
More than 67,000 mortgages were approved last month according to monthly Bank of England figures, the highest monthly level since January, and slightly more than the 65,726 signed off in September.
In recent months there have been several signs that the property market is stagnant, or slowing.
