SIG gets permission for Barnstaple regeneration

Sheffield Insulation Group (SIG) has gained outline consent for a 41-acre mixed-use development on one of its manufacturing sites in the centre of Barnstaple, north Devon.

The redevelopment of Anchorwood Bank will comprise around 450 houses and 107,639 sq ft of bulky non-food retail, as well as a café and restaurants, offices, a hotel and community facilities.

It is expected that 25% of the housing will be affordable.

SIG subsidiary Leaderflush & Shapland, a door manufacturer that occupies the site, will move to purpose-built premises.

“This project will revitalise this part of town, bringing new homes and new jobs,” said Barton Willmore associate Andrew Jones.

Barton Willmore advised SIG on planning.
