A Silicon Valley shantytown called “the jungle” has been torn down by the authorities, who said that it was unsanitary and violent.
The camp, near the head offices of Google and Facebook, was home to 350 people, some living in holes covered with plastic sheets. A charity said the technology boom had fuelled a homelessness crisis.
