Silver Fern reveals plans for Edinburgh’s Shrubhill

Silver Fern Group has submitted a planning application for two hotels and shops at Shrubhill on Leith Walk, Edinburgh.

The private Warwickshire-based developer is proposing a 239-bed budget hotel and a three-star hotel above 16,000 sq ft of shops.

Siver Fern is acquiring the site from Unite, subject to planning consent.

The student accommodation provider was granted planning consent in April 2008 to build student flats over the shops following the acquisition of the site from the city council.

Bob Brisker of Silver Fern said: “The revised hotel proposals are consistent with both the local plan for the area and the masterplan for this site.

“The brief to our architects was to maintain the scale and massing of the previously consented scheme, and I think they have done that very well.”

“In fact the building height has been reduced in some areas.

“We are therefore hopeful that the scheme will be welcomed by the local community and the planning department and that we can secure planning approval over the next few months.”

JLP Development Consultancy advised Unite; DTZ is advising Silver Fern on the retail.
