Simon Wilkes to head L&G Property development team

Simon Wilkes, fund manager for Legal & General’s Life Fund City and Midtown portfolio, is to head the group’s development management team.

The team will co-ordinate and manage Legal & Generals development programme across all sectors, with the exception of shopping centre development which will be resourced on a project-by-project basis.

In addition to dealing with existing opportunities, the team will be responsible for generating and co-ordinating new business, including site acquisitions, forward funding and joint ventures.

It will include Nick Baker who will retain his existing responsibilities for Strategic Land in the Life Fund.

Nigel Fuller will become responsible for Wilkes existing City Fund management responsibilities and will be the fund manager responsible for the Life Fund office portfolio throughout the UK, including London.

Mark Creedy, managing director of L&G P said: “The key driver behind both of these appointments is to ensure that we have sufficient dedicated resource in areas which are critical to the future success of the business.

“There are a number of exciting large development opportunities within the existing portfolios. These will be better managed by creating a dedicated team, which will be our internal centre of excellence.”

L&G Property is also seeking to a head of business development who will be responsible for the structuring and implementation of new fund ideas and the marketing of L&G Propertys capability in the property fund management area. A selection process for this role has now commenced.

 ”With business development we are keen to extend the range of balanced and specialist funds managed by LGP,” added Creedy.
