Simons Estates tipped to develop £10m retail and leisure scheme on Bristol site

Simons Estates – the Lincolnshire-based developer – has been tipped to win a £10m retail and leisure scheme in Bristol city centre.

The company is believed to have pipped Town Centre Securities to take the 1ha (2.5acre) site on Marlborough Road. It is hoping to anchor the scheme with a multiplex cinema.

First Bus, which owns the site, wants to keep its bus station there as a ground floor or underground use in the scheme.

Andrew Maltby of Hartnell Taylor Cook, which is jointly selling the site with Chesterton, confirmed that two developers were on the final shortlist. However, he said no final decision had been made.

“The schemes are being run past our client to see whether they meet the requirements for a new bus station and them we will take the one that is most likely to secure planning,” Maltby said.

A spokesman for Simons said that the company had been shortlisted but would not confirm its final selection.
