Singaporeans win planning appeal for £1.3bn London brewery makeover

Developer Reselton has secured planning permission for the £1.3bn residential-led mixed-use scheme overlooking the River Thames in Mortlake, SW14.

The move follows the appeal and a long drawn-out battle fought with Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, after the site was bought by the developer in 2015.

The proposals, designed by architects Squire & Partners, feature regeneration of the old Stag Brewery site adjacent to the finishing line of the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, into 1,068 homes in a mix of one to four-bedrooms, with a minimum 7.5% affordable housing. In addition, the developers have proposed a 1,200 pupil secondary school academy, retail space, hotel, cinema, offices and nine-acres of green space.

The project is led by Dartmouth Capital Advisors on behalf of Reselton Properties, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore-listed City Developments. Newmark advised on planning matters.

Guy Duckworth, development director at Dartmouth Capital Advisors, said: “Our client bought the site with the benefit of a planning brief from Richmond Council, the spirit of which our architects Squire & Partners have followed faithfully, and yet it has taken 10 years to obtain a planning consent.

“Through the expert planning advice of our consultants Newmark, the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames approved three planning applications all of which were refused by the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, including one scheme that his own Greater London Authority officers recommended for approval offering a minimum of 30% affordable housing and a new secondary school.”
