Sir Graham Hall has resigned as chairman of the Northern Way – the body set up to tackle the prosperity gap between the North and the rest of England.
Sir Graham will step down at the end of February 2006 and will be succeeded by Neville Chamberlain, CBE, a former chief executive and deputy chairman of BNFL.
Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, has welcomed the appointment of Mr Chamberlain.
He said: “The new chair has both the knowledge and experience to take forward the visionary leadership which has put the Northern Way on the map.
“I am grateful to Sir Graham Hall for his invaluable contribution in showing how the North can manage its own economic destiny, and look forward to working with the Northern Way to deliver more success.”
Chamberlain said: “As a businessman I am convinced that the Northern Way strategy is the way forward for the North, and hope that I will be able to make a valuable contribution to its accomplishment.
The Northern Way Growth Strategy, launched in September 2004, backed with a £100m Growth Fund, aims to eradicate the £30bn output gap between the North of England and the average of the other English regions by 2025.
