English Cities Fund, English Partnerships’ joint venture with AMEC and Legal & General, has appointed Sir Michael Lyons (pictured) as chairman.
The venture, which deals with sustainable area regeneration through public and private sector investment, will invest an initial £100m in mixed-use projects in town and city centre fringe locations.
Sir Michael was chief executive officer of Birmingham council for seven years until 2001.
His role will include overseeing the Birmingham Alliance, which was formed to redevelop the Bullring area and the East Side redevelopment.
Sir Michael is also professor of public policy at and director of the Institute of Local Government Studies at Birmingham University.
