Sir Robert McAlpine takes on Battersea phase three

Battersea Power Station Development Company has appointed Sir Robert McAlpine as the construction manager to complete phase three of the project.

It will replace Bouygues, which was initially appointed to manage the construction of more than 1,300 homes, a hotel, shops, restaurant and new London Underground station.

Phase three was designed Gehry Partners and Foster + Partners and will include a pedestrianised high street known as Electric Boulevard, which will run from the new Underground station to the Power Station.

BPSDC said a handover process was already underway and the change in contracting partner had not affected progress on site as trade contractors were already directly appointed by the developer.

Simon Jenner, chief operating officer of BPSDC, said: “Sir Robert McAlpine has demonstrated a comprehensive and robust understanding of our objectives. It has identified a strong, proven team with highly relevant experience and has shown a true desire and enthusiasm to work on this exciting and demanding project.”

He added: “This is another step towards the successful completion of this phase and we look forward to working with its team in due course. ”
