Telemarketing and outsourcing company Sitel has signed a major deal in Plymouth where it is moving to the Ship, in Derriford.
The 51,000 sq ft office building was relaunched in December 2015 after being bought in May 2015 by Burrington Estates, which has completed two other major regeneration projects, Ocean Crescent and Burrington Business Park.
The deal has been supported by MP Johnny Mercer and Baroness Neville-Rolfe, minister of state at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, as well as Plymouth City Council.
Secretary of state Liam Fox said: “This is terrific news for Plymouth and a mark of confidence in the UK post our decision to leave the European Union.
“To be very clear, this is no insignificant investment. This is a 10-year agreement which will help bring up to 700 jobs to the city in what is a major global trade deal.”
Mark Edworthy, co-founder of Burrington Estates, said: “When we bought the Ship we renamed it ‘the Spirit of Enterprise’ as it was always our intention to return this iconic building to its former glory as a bustling and thriving place to do business.
“The combined workforce of Sitel and the 15 or so businesses taking office space in our Thrive Hub means this building will once again be a place full of energy with approximately 800 people working here. There is still some space available so businesses wishing to be part of this exciting project need to act quickly.”
Sitel currently has 146 sites serving 70 countries with seven of these in the UK, employing circa 75,100 associates.
JLL advised Burrington Estates on the deal.
