Six architects shortlisted for Manchester Millennium Village

Six architects have been shortlisted to design the masterplan for Urban Splash’s 11.33ha (28-acre) Manchester Millennium Village.

The shortlist comprises Alsop Architects, which drew up the masterplan for Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Arup Associates, Eric van Egeraat Associated Architects which is designing the new Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, CZWG, Manchester-based Ian Simpson Architects and the Richard Rogers Partnership. The six were drawn from over 200 interested companies.

The firms will bid to draw up the scheme’s strategic framework to transform the Cardroom estate in east Manchester into a multi-million pound Millennium Village. The framework will include plans for the residential and office space, roads, a canal link between the Rochdale and Ashton canals and car parking.

The successful bidder will be chosen next week.
