Skanska in new jv for Warsaw hotel

Sweden’s Skanska is teaming up with US investors Portman Holdings and Starwood together with the City of Warsaw to jointly develop the €79.5m Westin Warsaw Hotel in the Polish capital.

Skanska, which has a 33% share of the development company, has also secured the construction contract for the 22-storey project. The hotel, to be operated by Starwood through its Westin brand, will have 366 rooms and conference facilities. Lenders to the scheme include the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The Westin Warsaw will be located at the corner of the Jana Pawla II and Grzybowska streets in central Warsaw and it will be the latest phase of the Atrium project that Skanska and the City have been developing. This includes new modern offices totalling 83,000m2. Portman Holdings is a privated Atlanta-based development company while Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc has over 725 properties in 80 countries.
