Skype founder backs Lendinvest

Pile-of-money-THUMB.gifSkype founder Niklas Zennström’s investment platform has put £17m into online property lender Lendinvest.

The peer-to-peer lender received the backing from Atomico, a venture capital company launched by Zennström in 2006.

The funding is the second major equity investment in Lendinvest in nine months, after it received a £22m equity injection in June 2015.

Zennström’s input takes the total institutional investment into the peer-to-peer lender to more than £200m in less than three years.

The money will be used to improve the technology behind the online platform. Atomico’s co-founder Mattias Ljungman will join Lendinvest’s board.

Christian Faes, co-founder and chief executive of LendInvest, said: “Atomico is a rare example of a VC firm whose founder has first-hand experience of building a multi-billion-dollar, fast-growth technology company, and that was hugely attractive to us.”
