Skyscrapers double amid demand for new homes in London

The number of skyscrapers in the capital is set to double by 2030.

There are now 541 buildings of 20 storeys or more in the pipeline, with some 76 due to be completed in 2019, a threefold increase on the 25 finished in 2018.

Work has started on a total of 121, with a further 291 granted planning permission and 129 in the planning process. In the past five years alone, 147 towers have been built, taking the total to 360, with a shortage of housing driving the surge in construction.
