Slow progress on fire safety risks another Grenfell

The government’s slow process on improving fire safety is running the risk of another Grenfell-style disaster.

The mayor of Salford, Paul Dennett, has called on the government to do more.

“Two years on from Grenfell and very little has happened,” he says. “The whole regulatory system is not fit for purpose.”

His comments follow a blaze in Bolton in November that was not covered by the toughest fire regulation because the building was below 18m in height.
