Twenty cyclists from across the property industry came together for SLR Cycle to UKREiiF last month. Organised by Club Peloton, the cycling events-based charity for the property sector, the proceeds from the fundraising ride will help fund a Cancer Exercise Specialist who will be responsible for offering bespoke exercise and activity advice to children living with cancer who have received a bike or trike from Club Peloton’s charity beneficiary Cyclists Fighting Cancer.
Embarking on a scenic journey from Newport, through Wales and England, to arrive in Leeds three days later, the group cycled over 400km, climbing more than 4,700m. The route took riders through charming towns such as Shrewsbury and Ludlow, rich in history and character, and into the Peak District. Day three brought both challenge and reward, as the group tackled Holme Moss, the event’s toughest climb. Spirits were lifted with a stop in Holmfirth — famous as the filming location of Last of the Summer Wine — where bacon butties provided the perfect post-climb fuel.
The ride was as much about building connections as it was about endurance, and from the outset the group worked cohesively to support each other. Quiet country lanes and low-traffic routes made for a relaxed atmosphere, allowing riders to soak in the stunning surroundings; think rolling fields, lush greenery, and the occasional abandoned castle standing watch over the countryside. The weather played its part beautifully, with sunshine accompanying the riders throughout the event.
Kate Watson from headline sponsor SLR said: “Participating in SLR Cycle to UKREiiF was a fantastic experience for me both personally and professionally. The ride provided a great opportunity to meet with industry leaders in the built environment sector, and many interesting and useful conversations were had on our journey to Leeds. Completing the 405km ride was also a personal achievement, being the furthest (and fastest) I had ever cycled over three days.”
The ride culminated with a sun-drenched arrival into Leeds: a memorable journey of landscapes, laughter and lasting connections.
