Smart Spaces appoints AI boss
Smart building platform Smart Spaces has appointed data scientist Alex Michaels as its head of AI.
Michaels has more than a decade of experience in engineering and data science. He joins the company from ImprovIT Consulting, where he focused on managing and improving the firm’s end-to-end data pipelines and driving new technology adoption.
He also founded two companies, Remix Robotics, which builds custom robotic systems and helps companies implement bespoke automation processes, and hybrid manufacturing firm EngX. He has also held roles at Babcock International, GKN Aerospace and the Lotus F1 team.

In his new role, Michaels will work closely with Smart Spaces founder and chief executive Dan Drogman to identify product and service opportunities emerging in line with the ongoing AI boom.
He will lead on the rollout of advanced AI tools to automate and streamline Smart Spaces’ existing platform, which aims to generate efficiencies for building owners and leverage the latest technologies to improve occupier experience and sustainable building management.
