Smiggle, the children’s stationery chain, is attempting to push through steep rent cuts with landlords after a slowdown in trading has thwarted its expansion plans.
The retailer, which is owned by Australian billionaire Solomon Lew, arrived in Britain five years ago and pursued an aggressive expansion plan to target 200 stores.
Sales nearly doubled to £56m on the back of demand for its fluorescent pencil cases, scented pens and brightly-coloured lunchboxes in 2017 while profits also surged from £3m to over £10m, according to its last available accounts.
