The Ivy League
Winners of the EG Awards exchanged congratulations on a more intimate level last week at the first winners’ dinner, held at The Ivy, WC2, supported by Carter Jonas.
The evening was an opportunity for industry peers to recognise the dedication, commitment and ingenuity of the victors – as well have another round of bubbles – following EG’s awards spectacular in December.
Representatives from Berkeley Group, crowned National Company of the Year; LaSalle Investment Management, named Global Company; Essential Living, winner of Deal of the Year – Industry Impact; and British Land, which triumphed in the Offices Company of the Year category, were among those who exchanged stories of their business feats.
Neil Worrall, who won EG and RICS Global’s inaugural The Next Big Thing competition for his Aqua Cities concept, was also formally congratulated.
Addressing the gathering, EG editor Damian Wild applauded the winners’ abilities to win over the discerning judges, whose collective experience and reach in the industry spans decades and continents.
“Everyone here tonight excelled themselves: you had a good story and most importantly of all, you told it well enough to win over our judges. Not an easy task, I can assure you,” he said.
Wild also promised an even more spectacular 2016 EG Awards, with a move away from the Hilton on Park Lane and a return to the Grosvenor to accommodate an even greater number of potential winners. The date has also been moved forward to 20 September.

The American dream team
Four men – three from construction services company ISG – are hoping to raise more than £100,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital by breaking the record in the Race Across America.
The four will race in a non-stop relay, hoping to cover the 3,000-mile width of the US in six days. The cyclists – Adam Broyad, Phil Brown and Tom Babbington, all at ISG, and digital marketeer Dan Augello – are on the hunt for sponsors and donors to help them reach their £100,000 target for GOSH.
Broyad says: “GOSH has been an enormous part of my life. When my son Tom was diagnosed blind at birth and with an extremely rare neurological condition, I had no idea where to turn.
“The care offered, expertise of the staff and professional approach is beyond belief.
“It is a testament to GOSH that Tom is the young man he is today – happy, confident and finding his way in the world. He still visits twice a year and endures procedures over several days that would bring tears to the eyes of most adults.
“Unbelievably though, due to the care he is shown, he talks of it fondly and even looks forward to his visits.”

Club Peloton’s Belgian sojourn
As cyclists from across the industry gear up for the annual pedal down to Cannes for MIPIM this year, a few Club Peloton riders decided to brave the Belgian weather and cobbles to train with a group of cyclists making their first trip to the property industry event.
Nipping over the Channel to Flanders, the Club Peloton riders met up with ReCycle2’s cyclists and pro-cyclist team T-Palm Pôle Continental Wallon to share tips on riding as a peloton over hundreds of miles down to the south of France – and to get a few cheeky extra miles in.
Nick Hanmer, chief executive of Club Peloton, organiser of the Legal & General Cycle to MIPIM, said: “The ride was designed to meet and train with others in the industry with similar ideas, to see how different people are running and preparing for their event, and to start building on potential future collaboration as two pelotons of property professionals converge on MIPIM.”

The new generation
Hamptons International’s latest branch – well, sort of– at KidZania London has welcomed its first junior estate agent, eight-year-old Max. The budding property pro was invited to open the venue after penning a letter to the firm last year enquiring after the skills and qualifications he would need to enter the profession when he grows up.
Hamptons is the only estate agency partner at KidZania, an educational theme park where children pretend to do adult jobs.
Hoping to ace MIPIM this year?
MIPIM delegates are being urged to Make a Racket and raise funds for the property industry’s charity, LandAid.
The second LandAid MIPIM Tennis Classic, in association with BNP Paribas Real Estate, is being held at the prestigious Cannes Tennis Club, behind the Martinez hotel, on 16 March.
It costs £1,000 per player to don your whites and take part. For a charge of £50, spectators can watch the action while enjoying a morning of corporate hospitality. Proceeds will go to LandAid.
JPW Real Estate and Folio UK are founding partners of the event, which is being headline sponsored by BNP Paribas Real Estate, with Essential Living as silver sponsors.
Other supporters include Assael Architecture, Inspired Asset Management, Loft Interiors, London at MIPIM, Lorenz Consultancy and Estates Gazette.
