Daring individuals tackle Drumlanrig
Daring property professionals from across the UK helped raise more than £11,000 for Childline at the 10th Buccleuch Property Challenge.
More than 70 teams took part in the outdoor endurance race at the Duke of Buccleuch’s Drumlanrig Castle and Queensberry Estate.
The winners of the single category team were Pol Macdonald, Ian Logan and Steven Wheatley from Optimised Environments, who completed the race in four hours 41 minutes.
The mixed team category champions were John Houston, Tom Fernie and Mhairi Polson from Thomas & Adamson who crossed the finish line in five hours 23 minutes.
Intrepid explorers conquer the peaks
A team of intrepid explorers from BNP Paribas Real Estate have completed the Nine Peaks Challenge – climbing the three highest mountains in England, Scotland, and Wales – and raised more than £30,000 for charity partner the Alzheimer’s Society.
The group of 19 adventurers walked 64 miles, covering 44,000 feet of ascent and descent in 62 hours and 45 minutes, beating a target time of 72 hours to climb Snowdon, Crib y Ddysgl and Carnedd Llewelyn in Wales; Scafell Pike, Scafell and Helvellyn in England; and Ben Nevis, Ben Macdui and Braeriach in Scotland.
Mark England, managing director at BNP Paribas Real Estate, said: “I am so proud of our team. They displayed enormous courage, grit and determination in the face of exhaustion to complete this unique ‘ultra’ challenge.
Property professionals join the speed network
More than 100 property professionals took part in a speed networking event hosted by Knight Frank in London for the charity Work Avenue. Those who attended met with 25 property professionals from firms including Knight Frank, Galliard Homes, Investream and Strettons. The charity, which primarily operates across the Jewish community, assists people into employment or new businesses.
Retail matters for schoolchildren
Capital & Regional had its malls taken over as part of Retail Matters Week, a campaign which showcases the talents of those who work in the retail industry.
As part of the initiative, primary schoolchildren aged 10 and 11 took part in a “takeover day”. The children were given a behind the scenes look at how the shopping centres are run and joined the centres’ customer service, security and management teams for a day.
Sara Jones, operations director, Capital & Regional, said: “One of our aims is to engage with the community, and takeover day has been a success in helping schoolchildren understand how a shopping centre functions and the job opportunities it provides.”
Pedal power raises cash for good causes
Some of property’s cycling mavericks have pedalled from Land’s End to John O’Groats raising money for good causes.
l Edmond Shipway directors Daman Ranby and Scott Green (pictured) hopped on their bikes for Macmillan Cancer Support. They raised £2,000 for the cancer support service.
l Rod Edwards from Deloitte Real Estate completed the 950-mile ride for Deloitte Ride Across Britain raising £2,644 for the British Paralympic Association. The event raised £156,026, which brings Deloitte’s fundraising for the British Paralympic Association since 2010 to more than £1.8m.
Student shines at property awards
Real estate student Yasmine Lunn is the winner of 2016 Women in Property National Student Awards. Sponsored by Bouygues UK, Cushman & Wakefield and Linden Homes, the award association seeks to find the property and construction industry’s future stars.
The Sheffield Hallam University student competed against nine contestants from across the UK to win the accolade which was presented to her at Claridge’s, W1.

Charity ball blossoms for Bluebell
Construction and property sector professionals will come together on 21 October at Sheffield City Hall for the annual charity ball to raise money for the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
The charity cares for children and young adults with life-shortening or life-threatening conditions.
Challenge no obstacle for all stars
A team of Aitchison Raffety colleagues triumphed in a five-mile obstacle course in aid of Peace Hospice Care in Watford, Hertfordshire.
The team called All Stars raised more than £500 completing the Push it for the Peace obstacle course.
The local hospice provides care and support to patients and families facing a life limiting illness. Last year the charity supported more than 1,500 people.
All out for tea
Hemel Hempstead estate agents Aitchisons hosted an afternoon tea at Leverstock Green Cricket Club for charity DENS. The local agents raised more than £750 for the Hertfordshire charity which tackles homelessness and poverty in the borough of Dacorum.
