Kirkby Diamond’s Eamon Kennedy has completed the three peaks challenge in under 24 hours, raising more than £2,100 for Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Kennedy, who is battling the debilitating effects of Muscular Dystrophy, took on the gruelling challenge to raise money for research into the condition and a possible cure.

Kennedy said: “Approximately four years ago I was diagnosed with a form of Muscular Dystrophy called Facioscapulohumeral Dystrophy (FSHD). It was a massive surprise and something that nothing could have prepared me for.”

He added: “It was hard at times during the gruelling training and on the mountainside. However completing the challenge within the 24-hour window was a brilliant achievement.”

The success of SEGRO London Community Fund has been celebrated with a reception at the House of Commons, hosted by MP Ruth Cadbury and Andy Gulliford, chief operating officer.

The fund made donations of more than £60,000 to community projects in London supporting 594 beneficiaries in 2015, and donations of £90,000 to new community projects in 2016.

Across London the scheme has supported 31 community projects to date with almost 15% of participants securing employment as a result.

Gulliford said: “We are delighted to celebrate the successes of our London Community Fund and to see how our investment has really helped people and projects in the communities where we operate.”

Giving back to the community is part of SEGRO’s ethos and we look forward to continuing our support of local communities through this fund.”

The Shard and its occupiers have collected and wrapped 520 presents for the London Bridge Community Gift Collection, in association with Team London Bridge, to give a Christmas present to hundreds of local people.

Over the past six years Team London Bridge have collected thousands of gift donations from London Bridge employees to support local charities which work with the homeless, elderly and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and those struggling with mental health issues.

This year’s gifts were donated to the charities Bede House, Beormund Community Centre, Cooltan Arts, Manna Centre, Ronald McDonald House, Time and Talents, Stones End Day Centre and South London Cares.

isabel-570pxPexhurst’s Xmas gift

Fit-out and refurbishment specialists Pexhurst has donated £2,000 to Isabel Hospice’s Christmas fundraising.

Pexhurst has supported the charity since 2000 and its staff have been involved in a range of activities to help raise money and awareness of the hospice, which provides free palliative care and support for patients and their families living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.

Solicitor wills £1k

Francis George Solicitor-Advocate donated £1,000 received in fees to Prospect Hospice. The Swindon law firm donated the fees from every joint and mirror will prepared in one calendar month to the hospice – an initiative it has run since 2014.

Francis George, the firm’s founder, said: “We’re delighted to support the invaluable facility Prospect Hospice provides to the people of Swindon and the surrounding area. We’d also take the opportunity to remind people of the importance of a properly prepared will. This is critical as any grey areas in a person’s will could affect who inherits either all or part of their estate.”

Apprentices awarded

The Chartered Surveyors Training Trust’s annual CSTT Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors saw more than 70 guests gather to celebrate the success of the 2014 apprenticeship cohort.

Sponsorship was provided by Axis Europe, CBRE, Fairthorn Farrell Timms and Redrow and supported by the trust’s founder, the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors, and the RICS.

The apprentices were presented with certificates by Amanda Clack, RICS president, and special recognition awards were given to apprentices Kim Hepburn, Laura Pell, George Clements, Amber Phillips, Amina Khatun and George Hart.
