Sock Shop plans to add 50 stores in two years

Sock Shop has confirmed that it is expanding its 73-strong chain by 50 units within two years.

The company, taken over last summer by the Tulchan Group – with backing from 3i, Nat West Ventures and the Prudential – has allocated £2m for property investment this year.

Richard Aquilina, Sock Shop’s retail services franchise controller, said that the firm is looking mainly in the north of England. Sock Shop units average 33 sq m (250 sq ft).

Aquilina added that the company, which is tipped to float later this year, is seeking to expand the Sock Shop banner overseas. Its sole property consultant is Lambert Smith Hampton.
