Soho House Istanbul: Ottoman opulence

Soho-House-Istanbul

They say that where Nick Jones goes, everyone else follows. Whether this will prove to be the case in Istanbul remains to be seen, particularly in terms of overseas investment in real estate as geopolitical instability intensifies.

But in the meantime, there can be no denying that the creative glamour and buzz of Jones’ new Soho House Istanbul makes perfect sense in Europe’s fastest-growing city.

Located in the creative district of Beyoglu on the city’s European side, the House has taken over all five floors of the former US consulate, a 19th-century palazzo built by a Genoese merchant.

The frescos have been repainted, the building’s Corinthian columns restored, and as well as the trademark rooftop pool, there is a Cowshed spa (complete with a hammam) and a branch of Cecconi’s on site.

Hotel rooms are designed using art, cushions and throws carefully selected and curated from Istanbul’s own Grand Bazaar.

For anyone on the hunt for an Istanbul hideaway that combines Soho House style and service with traditional Ottoman design, this is the place to be – and be seen.
