Network Rail’s and Kier Property’s joint venture, Solum Regeneration, has received approval for its proposed new station at Twickenham.
The London Borough of Richmond last night voted to grant planning permission for Solum Regeneration’s plans, subject to the completion of a section 106 agreement and no adverse direction from the Greater London Authority.
The scheme will provide a new station and gateway to the town centre, along with 115 homes, shops and restaurants, built around a new public plaza.
The Rugby Football Union has expressed its support for the station, which will be built in time for 2015 Rugby World Cup.
John Robinson, development manager with Solum Regeneration, said: “We look forward to continuing to work with the council and the wider Twickenham community as we progress the project over the coming months and to starting construction in 2012.”
