Somerfield has confirmed it will retain its Kwik Save stores and continue to operate them as a separate brand.
New chief executive Alan Smith said he was convinced the brand had a good future and the supermarket group could succeed in both neighbourhood and discount food retailing.
Somerfield was unable to get the price it wanted for the 350 stores. Now 406 others that were going to be converted to the Somerfield format will remain operating under the Kwik Save fascia.
