South coast set for hi-tech hubs makeover

Plans to develop hi-tech enterprise hubs along the South coast of England are to be unveiled in Eastbourne next month.

A consortium, comprising SEEDA, Sussex Enterprise, Eastbourne council and public private partnership Eastbourne Reborn, plans to build 30 incubation units for IT businesses in the area.

Preferred location for the first hub is the former PPP headquarters in Upperton Road, Eastbourne, which has been vacant since 1999. One local firm has already expressed interest in buying the building, which the developers claim will show a complete return within less than five years.

The building comprises 3,133 sq m (33,726 sq ft), with units averaging 46.5 sq m (500 sq ft) each. Eastbourne council has also earmarked four other buildings.

Following the announcement on 16 July, the steering group plans to roll out the concept throughout East Sussex.
