South West Leisuredome wins approval

The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government has granted approval of the £50m Leisuredome attraction in Weston-super-Mare. It follows North Somerset council’s decision in July to approve the planning application.

The Leisuredome will comprise a 690ft ski slope, the longest in the UK, and an indoor climbing centre with a 130ft climbing wall, the tallest in the world, alongside an indoor surfing centre and sky-diving facility.

Construction of the scheme is expected to start at the end of the year with the opening planned for 2013.

The Leisuredome will be on 13 acres of RAF land that St Modwen is redeveloping into a £400m sustainable community.

Clive Hamilton-Davies, director of Leisuredome, said: “This is significant milestone for the Leisuredome team, and we are absolutely delighted that permission has been granted for the development to now proceed.”

GVA is advising.
