A £40m, 100,000 sq ft Southampton arts complex has been given the go-ahead to sit in the city’s Cultural Quarter.
The complex, which includes restaurant and retail space, is part of a 2010 venture between Southampton city council and Grosvenor to develop new properties around the newly landscaped Guildhall Square.
A pedestrianised link to historic East Park will also be part of the building, which was designed by architect CZWG.
Construction on the site will begin imminently, with completion expected in 2015.
Royston Smith, leader of the council, said: “Planning approval marks a significant step in this important build for the city. It will be a place in the Cultural Quarter where all the arts can thrive. Despite the current financial climate, we continue to attract investment.”
