English Heritage and residents are opposing proposals by Southend Airport to move a 1,000-year-old church up to 150 yards.
The Essex airport says it will not be able to proceed with a £6m expansion unless it gets permission to move St Laurence and All Saints Church.
The expansion would include a railway station, visitor centre and an airport terminal catering for 300,000 passengers a year.
