Southern Cross names landlords

Southern Cross has named 30 proposed operators for more than 90% of its 755 care homes in a list given to GMB union.

Operators have been named for 691 Southern Cross-run properties, however 8.5% of the buildings are still without a new manager.

The document was handed to the union this morning, at the same time as Jamie Buchan, Southern Cross chief executive announced he was resigning from the business.

Landlords will have new operators by either the end of September, or the end of October, as part of the Southern Cross wind-up which began in June.

London & Regional named Orchard Care Homes.com and Minster as new operators, and Prestbury Investments has opted for Methodist Homes.

Transfers will be subject to local councils and the Care Quality Commission assessing the fitness of prospective operators and their business plans for each property.

Justin Bowden GMB national officer for Southern Cross said: “This list of over 30 prospective operators has come a month later than planned. The list may be subject to changes as certain landlords may switch operators late in the process.”
