Southwark council has rejected plans for a 28-storey tower inspired by Vostok 1, the rocket that carried cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin into space in 1961.
The plans for 55 Southwark Street, SE1, submitted by Southwark Square on behalf of a Russian consortium, included a residential tower, 350-seat theatre and spaceship themed bar.
