Southwark council estate block approved for redevelopment

Friar’s Close Regeneration, a partnership between Mount Anvil and the Riverside Group, has received planning permission to demolish and redevelop a housing estate block in Southwark.

Friars Close, SE1, is a 0.44-acres site with a four-storey residential building of 28 social rented homes near London’s South Bank. Of these units, 24 are occupied, with two becoming vacant during the application.

The jv’s approved scheme proposes to demolish the site and develop a part nine, part 22-storey building containing 149 homes.

A total of 54 social rented homes would be provided, along with a further 95 private sale homes.

Existing residents would be provided with temporary accommodation in the borough during the construction period and be given the option to return to the site after the scheme is completed.
