Space accommodates Herbert

Retail property consultancy SPACE has appointed Martin Herbert as director of retail agency.

Herbert, formerly head of retail for the Midlands at Lambert Smith Hampton, joins the Leicester-based niche practice to bolster its eight-strong in-house team.

Retained clients include a number of private pension funds and family trusts, plus Red Hot World Buffet and Roosters Piri Piri, which will continue to work with him on their UK expansion plans during 2014.

Former Smith Price agent Stuart Kiddie has also been appointed as senior surveyor.

Meanwhile, SPACE has bolstered its shopping centre instructions with four new clients. The firm has replaced DTZ as joint letting agent with BWD on Aviva Investor’s 30,000 sq ft Great Western Arcade in Birmingham and has been instructed as letting agents on three further Midlands shopping centres where Herbert will take the agency lead. They are:

• the 40,000 sq ft St Martins Square shopping centre in Leicester, owned by PASFIN Services, where it has replaced Andrew + Ashwell as joint letting agent with Lambert Smith Hampton;

• the 13,000 sq ft Silver Arcade in Leicester, owned by Lukegate, where it has been appointed as sole agent; and

• HSBC Bank Pension Trust’s 76,000 sq ft Carillon Court Shopping Centre in Loughborough, where it has replaced LSH as joint agent with Green & Partners.

Peter Leverett, SPACE’s managing director, said: “These appointments are key for us, adding significant expertise to our team as we continue to build our landlord advisory work in the Midlands on major shopping centre, private investor, retail and leisure agency client work.”

SPACE was established 18 months ago following Leverett and his eight strong team’s departure from London-based agent twentyretail. The firm has reported a 140% increase in floorspace transacted and a 57% increase in deals done for clients in the past 12 months.
