Spanish architect defends himself against criticism

Architect Santiago Calatrava has defended himself and his projects against criticism, saying he accepted the criticism if it was done professionally.

The City of Arts and Sciences project in the architect’s home town of Valencia cost over €1bn by the time it was completed, four times the budgeted amount. Local authorities have complained about parts of the mosaic on the performance hall falling off in high winds. Complaints were also made about the fees charged.

Other disappointed clients include the Ysios winery. In Oviedo part of a conference centre fell down while it was being built.
