Spenhill Regeneration, the regeneration subsidiary of supermarket giant Tesco, has submitted plans to transform Sittingbourne town centre in Kent.
The plans include improvements to the Forum shopping centre, a cinema, additional shops and new restaurants. They will also bring into use land immediately north of the centre towards Milton Creek, which is currently separated by a railway line.
A new bridge, for cyclists and pedestrians, would link the revitalised town centre with the proposed complementary shopping offer to the north of the railway.
The site of the old Sittingbourne industrial park is to be transformed bringing a new Tesco Extra store plus an additional 11 shops. A smaller Tesco Metro store will replace empty space in The Forum Centre.
Jonathan Simpson, Tesco corporate affairs manager, said: “Our plans for Sittingbourne will give a real boost to the town centre, providing the improved shopping facilities and better public spaces that local residents have told us they want.“
