Sports Council backs £200m Wembley stadium and Manchester gets new stadium and complex

The Sports Council has backed Wembley as the site for a new 80,000-seat, £200m national stadium. The National Lottery is expected to contribute £120m towards the scheme. The architect is Sir Norman Foster.

Manchester will get a new 60,000-capacity sports stadium and a new swimming complex. Manchester City Football Club is expected to lease the new Manchester ground. Manchester will get £80m of public money.
