Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has named Sainsbury’s as the operator of a new 72,000 sq ft store in its N17 redevelopment.
The club today confirmed the supermarket would take a long-term lease on a store, on the north side of the stadium, that will form part of its £400m White Hart Lane redevelopment plans.
The new store will replace Sainsbury’s current one at 867-869 High Road Tottenham. In addition, the retailer has agreed a lease on a second smaller convenience store, damaged in riots last August, also on the High Road.
Spurs’ chairman, Daniel Levy, said: “This will be one of the largest supermarkets of its kind in London and will help bring a greater vibrancy and attract new trade to the area.”
Justin King, chief executive of Sainsbury’s, added: “Sainsbury’s has been trading in Tottenham for over a quarter of a century and we’re proud to invest in the area at this important time.”
Work on the new store will start in the coming months, with the opening planned for late 2013. The smaller shop is due to reopen in April 2012.
