Spurs stadium plans boosted

Tottenham Hotspur’s £400m redevelopment of White Hart Lane has moved forward after the club signed a section 106 agreement with Haringey council.

Spurs have committed to the s106 agreement meaning they will put £17m towards local facilities in the area if their plans come to fruition.

The move will be welcomed by the government and Olympic chiefs who have been trying to persuade Spurs to drop its legal challenge to losing out to West Ham United over a move to the Olympic stadium.

But they also want local and central government to contribute towards revamping transport and other facilities around the area.

Club officials will now sit down with the council, London Mayor Boris Johnson and central government figures to see if they can come to an agreement.

Johnson offered Spurs £8.5m following the riots in August to help persuade the club to stay in Haringey.

Spurs were given planning permission in October to redevelop White Hart Lane in a site adjacent to the ground in a plan known as the Northumberland Development Project.

A Tottenham Hotspur statement said: “The club can confirm that the s106 agreement in respect of the Northumberland Development Project has now been completed and planning permissions have been issued.

“This enables discussions with the London borough of Haringey, the Mayor of London and central government to continue as we seek to make the development viable and deliverable.”
