Spurs’ stadium plans delay halts government funding

Tottenham will not receive its share of a government regeneration fund until a decision has been made about the future of Tottenham Hotspur FC’s stadium.

The riot-hit area, along with Croydon, had been granted £20m collectively as part of mayor of London Boris Johnson’s London Enterprise Fund.

However, a spokesman for City Hall, said: “We await to hear from Tottenham Hotspur Football Club about their long-term plans before we can proceed with funds being released from City Hall.”

Funds were going to be used to promote the quality of buildings and transport links in Tottenham.

The club has secured a judicial review of the decision to let West Ham run the Olympic Stadium after the Games. It will be held in October, after which City Hall said it will have a clearer understanding of Spurs’ plans for its N17 stadium.

A £50m regeneration fund for the whole of London, and a £3.5m High Street fund to help riot-hit businesses, are unaffected.
