Plans to demolish an office block in the Square Mile to make way for a boutique hotel have been given the go-ahead by the City of London Corporation’s planning committee.
Mactaggart Family & Partners’ scheme will see 1-8 Long Lane, EC1, knocked down and replaced with a nine-storey hotel run by The Resident hotel chain, which also operates hotels in Covent Garden, Kensington, Soho and Victoria, as well as Edinburgh and Liverpool.
There will also be retail space on the ground floor of the EPR Architects-designed scheme.
Objections were received over the increased massing and height of the development over an earlier approved scheme, as well as the look of the building.
The committee voted 11 to five in favour of the project, which was recommended for approval by officers.
