SRA wants Birmingham to serve as fourth London airport

The Strategic Rail Authority has proposed that Birmingham should provide London’s fourth airport to relieve pressure on transport in the south-east.

It suggested a dedicated rail service should be established between Euston and Birmingham International airport.

Sir Alastair Morton, chairman, speaking at an event organised by Birmingham Forward, accused West Midland Passenger Executive bosses “up north” of “blackmailing Londoners into accepting a rigid, now ossified structure of rail services” in the run-up to privatisation.
