St Modwen plans Leegate Shopping Centre redevelopment

Leegate-Shopping-CentreSt Modwen has submitted plans for the redevelopment of the Leegate Shopping Centre in Lee Green, SE12.

The mixed-use scheme, designed by award-winning architects MaccreanorLavington and Campbell Architects, will deliver 229 homes located over 115,000 sq ft of commercial space, which will be anchored by a new Asda foodstore.

The Asda 35,000 sq ft sales floor will act as an anchor for up to 25,000 sq ft of smaller independent shops, restaurants and cafés. A 22,000 sq ft gym, a new community centre and an education centre are also factored into the plans.

Killian Morris, senior development manager at St Modwen, said: “Our aim is to retain local shoppers within the Lee Green catchment, and creating a complementary mix of uses is key to achieving this. Our proposals illustrate how retail, leisure and community facilities can be integrated successfully with good-quality housing and public realm in a constrained urban setting.”
